My post contentDear Member of the Most Brilliantly Excellent Northport Chorale,
(...from the Absolute Queen of Superlatives, your President & CEO, Su Ronneburger (...and yes, we are indeed a Corporation...)
Well, the World Cup is over, the NFL Draft is over, the All Star Game is over. You know what that means - our fresh-tomato-laden summer is on the wane. (Translation for Millennials/Gen Z - Summer is nearly over) But take heart! Because Autumn brings with it our first Chorale rehearsal and an amazing musical season ahead!
Thanks to Matt and our redoubtable Music Committee, a glorious program has already been chosen and music is on the way. In fact, Practice Tracks are already available on our Sound Cloud! I have included the list of pieces in this mailing. Give a listen! Also included herein is a VERY tentative “Dates-to-Remember” as nothing is ever final with the Northport School System until God himself approves.
Please take special note of one of our selections for the Holiday Concert - “Ceremony of Carols.” This piece, composed by Benjamin Britten, is a favorite of choral singers everywhere. We’re promoting this in print ads and on social media - you do the same! Anyone who has sung in a chorus will be familiar with this work and will, (hopefully) be anxious to perform it with us.
Our most amazing Artist-in-Residence and Publicity Committee Chair, Tenor Cory Good, has created an engaging and colorful digital flyer for our Holiday Concert. Check your email for a copy to use on your own Social Media, or get a copy from the Northport Chorale FaceBook page.
Now comes the whining phase of this missive. As you know the Board has recently made the decision to begin using, (that is, purchasing) “real” music. Copying music for 55 singers has become burdensome and time-consuming, not-to-mention immoral and legaly questionable. Other Long Island choruses have also begun following this trend. Needless to say our Chorale Treasury will take a hit - over $2,500 for this concert alone.
So, as I explained last session, to help cover the cost, we are asking members to pitch in $25 per semester. The Chorale will pay the rest. Registration remains the same. (BTW, I have recently been reminded, our dues are completely Tax Deductable!) The up-side is, you get to keep your “real” music thereby creating a beautiful music library of your own. It’ll be easier to read; there won’t be any blurred words or notes. So, yeah.
This is going to be a great year! In addition to this exciting Holiday Concert (accompanied in part by a HARP!) we are once again collaborating in the Spring with the North Shore Chamber Choir in a performance of the lovely, exuberant “Illuminare” by Elaine Hagenberg. Check it out!
I cannot wait to see you all on Wednesday, September 2nd at 7:30 in the EN Middle School Chorus Room! Bring a friend! (BringTWO!)
